An untitled mobile-based game by Pudgy Penguins is slated for a soft launch in 2025. Pudgy Penguins has collaborated with Mythical Games to develop an immersive virtual world. It will be built on Mythos Chain, which hosts NFL Rivals, a popular Web3 game.
John Linden, the CEO of Mythical Games, has said that building the game will be a major drive to push Web3 among traditional users. John has also appreciated Pudge Penguins as the only Web3 project to go mainstream via retail partnerships with Target and Walmart. The development comes after the launch of a desktop-based game earlier this year.
NFT holders will have exclusive access to mobile content, such as sneak peeks. They will also be able to weigh in on multiple aspects of the game’s development.
Pudgy Penguins expanded its availability through Walmart earlier this year when the company granted access to 1,100 stores. Pudgy Toys made its debut in September 2023 across 2,000 US Walmart stores. The addition in February has taken the total number to 3,100 nationwide.
Thirty more toys are expected to enter the store. These will include Lil Pudgy Igloo collectibles and action figures, priced between $2.99 and $11.97.
Luca Netz, the Chief Executive Officer of Pudgy Penguins, commented on the development, saying that the expansion underscores the enduring appeal of their characters. What makes these toys more desirable is that they come with a QR Code that grants their owners access to Pudgy World, where they can build Forever Pudgy characters, interact with other users, and play mini-games.
All the toys are inspired by Pudgy Penguins NFTs. Holders can submit their pieces for licensing to receive royalties via the NFT platform OverpassIP, currently in Beta mode. In February, Pudgy Penguins NFTs briefly surpassed Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs in terms of floor price.
Simply put, Pudgy Penguins has community engagement and needs to receive sufficient attention to launch an immersive virtual world. It is banking on Mythical Games to develop the game specifically for mobile devices. Supported by Mythos Chain, once launched, it stands a strong chance of mass adoption and higher scalability in the years to come. It will simultaneously help drive the adoption of Web3.
