Binance has invested $100 million in Circle Internet Group, the company that created the USDC stablecoin. This comes as both companies renew and expand their strategic partnership for another five years. With this deal, Binance now owns a direct stake in Circle and will continue working closely with the company to boost USDC’s presence on Binance’s global platform.
A big part of the renewed agreement will focus on emerging markets. Binance aims to promote USDC to more users in these regions. Circle will keep running the infrastructure behind USDC, making sure people can hold and use the stablecoin. Meanwhile, Binance will focus on getting USDC to more customers, spreading awareness, and encouraging adoption. Binance bought Circle Class A common stock through a private placement at a price that is 5% below the market value of CRCL right before the deal was closed.
What Binance Bought In Circle And At What Price
This new investment makes the Binance-Circle relationship deeper. Instead of just teaming up to promote USDC, Binance is now investing directly in the company behind the stablecoin. Binance says the $100 million investment aligns with the expansion and renewal of its partnership with Circle, set for the next five years. The new agreement is aimed at helping USDC get more traction using Binance’s global reach.
1,237,011 shares at $80.84, closed September 17, with a two-year lockup and retained voting rights A five year deal sets up both companies for a long term partnership. Binance says its investment and the renewed commitment show it is in this for the long haul, not just with Circle but with the broader use of USDC.
Richard Teng, co-CEO of Binance, called Circle one of the most credible issuers in the world and described the deal as “long-duration conviction”. He said their partnership aims to create a digital economy that is inclusive, transparent and follows the rules. Teng also stressed that their goal is broader access to a stable digital dollar for everyone. Circle, on the other hand, gets a major global partner more closely on board, both as an investor and as a business collaborator.
How The Five-Year USDC Agreement Pays Binance
The centre of this agreement is USDC. Binance will promote the stablecoin on its worldwide platform, with a special focus on emerging markets. Under the new setup, Binance and Circle have clear roles. Circle will pay Binance a monthly incentive fee tied to USDC balances held through its wallet infrastructure. Binance is in charge of growing USDC’s user base and adoption. Circle sticks to its job of providing the infrastructure so people can hold and use USDC smoothly. Having Binance’s massive platform as the distribution center is key to their strategy. Both companies say they want to help more people and businesses in fast growing regions. The plan is to make digital dollar services more widely available.
Jeremy Allaire, Circle’s co-founder, chairman, and CEO, said this partnership creates chances to use USDC to broaden access to the dollar, help people save, and make investments using digital assets. He added that this could bring opportunities for both individuals and businesses in emerging markets. So, this new agreement goes beyond just making USDC available. The companies want to raise awareness, make USDC easier to get, and encourage more people to actually use the stablecoin in their everyday lives.
Why Circle And Binance Are Targeting Emerging Markets
While Binance focuses on growing USDC’s user base, Circle keeps running the infrastructure behind the scenes. Circle describes itself as an internet financial platform company, working on programmable blockchain technology, digital assets, and payment solutions. Their main platform includes USDC, Circle Payments Network, and Arc. USDC is still front and center in the partnership with Binance, while Circle’s other services are there to help with new digital financial tools.
The agreement supersedes two earlier USDC arrangements, from November 2024 and August 2025. The main difference now is that Binance owns a piece of Circle, and the business partnership has gotten a five year renewal. For Binance, this is a long term plan to keep USDC growing on its platform. For Circle, the partnership gives them a huge global route to connect their stablecoin infrastructure with millions of new users. Both companies say that by teaming up like this, they are focusing on expanding access to a reliable, trusted digital dollar, especially in places where they see lots of space for USDC to grow.
