Ethereum L2 Silicon Shuts Down. Withdraw by December 31

Silicon Network, an Ethereum layer-2 network, is winding down its service by the end of 2026, giving users until Dec. 31 to withdraw assets held on the network. The network stopped accepting new bridge deposits on Sept. 2 and will keep withdrawals available during the transition period. After the deadline, Silicon plans to shut down the network and its block explorer. Around $9.75 million in assets remained on the network as of Sept. 3, according to L2BEAT, including USDC, WBTC, ETH and USDT. Silicon has warned that assets left on the network after the service is terminated cannot be recovered, making the withdrawal period the key focus for users with funds on the chain.

Silicon Gives Users Until Dec. 31 To Withdraw Assets

Silicon’s service termination notice says the network stopped accepting new bridge deposits on Sept. 2 and will remain available for withdrawals until Dec. 31, 2026. The network and its explorer are scheduled to shut down after the withdrawal period. The project describes Silicon as a non-custodial service, meaning users are responsible for managing their own assets and completing withdrawals. Silicon says assets that have not been withdrawn once the service has been terminated cannot be recovered. 

 

For users holding assets that were originally bridged from Ethereum, the network says those assets can be withdrawn to Ethereum mainnet during the available withdrawal period. Users accessing the network through external wallets also need enough ETH to cover transaction fees and must complete the required withdrawal process before the deadline. The network has also advised users not to send additional assets to Silicon now that bridge deposits have been disabled. Such deposits may not be processed correctly and could become unavailable. The shutdown follows the end of Silicon’s operations as an Ethereum layer-2 network built using Polygon CDK. The network had been connected with Agglayer and integrated with South Korean crypto exchange Korbit, with the project positioned as a way for exchange users to access Ethereum-based applications. 

CryptoSlate reported that Korbit’s Web3 Wallet, which operated on Silicon, is also being discontinued. The wallet was launched to give exchange customers access to decentralized applications and DeFi services through Silicon. The immediate issue for users, however, is the deadline for moving assets off the network.

Nearly $10 Million Remains On Silicon

L2BEAT’s Silicon data showed approximately $9.75 million in total value secured on the network as of Sept. 3. USDC accounted for about $2.66 million of that amount, while WBTC represented roughly $2.54 million. ETH stood at approximately $2.08 million and USDT at about $1.85 million. Together, those four assets make up most of Silicon’s remaining reported value. 

The figures show that the shutdown involves a meaningful amount of assets that still need to be moved, although the process varies depending on what users hold. CryptoSlate reported that assets originally bridged from Ethereum can be withdrawn back to Ethereum during the withdrawal window. Users must initiate the withdrawal, maintain enough ETH for gas and complete the necessary finalization steps before the Dec. 31 cutoff. 

The situation is different for assets issued directly on Silicon. According to CryptoSlate’s report, those tokens cannot simply be sent back to Ethereum through the same route and may instead depend on liquidity remaining on Silicon. That creates a separate consideration as the shutdown progresses. If liquidity for a Silicon-native asset becomes limited, users could have fewer options for converting or moving that asset before the network closes. For users with funds on Silicon, the priority is to identify what they hold, find the correct withdrawal route and complete it before December 31. Silicon’s notice makes the consequence of missing that window clear – once the service has been terminated, assets that remain on the network cannot be recovered.
