Cardano Foundation Partners With Reef Data eG for On-Chain Financial Reporting

Cardano Foundation Partners with Reef Data eG to Bring Transparent Financial Reporting On-Chain

The Cardano Foundation has partnered with Hamburg-based data cooperative Reef Data eG to improve transparency in cooperative financial reporting through blockchain technology. They’re rolling out the open-source Reeve platform, which lets organizations record and verify financial activity on the Cardano blockchain. The idea is quite straightforward: show things like sales numbers, reward payouts, and member payments right on the blockchain. That way, whether you are a cooperative member or an auditor, you can check the numbers yourself without having to trust internal spreadsheets.

The Foundation says this effort combines Reef Data in apps and technical setup with Reeve’s reporting tools. The result would be a transparent, auditable ledger for financial records. Cooperative members get to see their own financial details, and auditors can independently confirm payment flaws. All of the information is cryptographically locked and time-stamped securely in a blockchain. According to the Foundation, this partnership is not just about day-to-day reporting; it is a pilot to see how well the two groups’ systems fit together, checking everything from how it works to how fast it moves to how easy it is to use.

How Cardano and Reef Data Built the Reeve Pilot

The Cardano Foundation and Reef Data eG collaborated, combining their technical knowledge to connect their systems and roll out a pilot blockchain-based reporting solution. According to the official announcement, Reef Data handled building the application layer; they set up the backend, user wallet extension, linking to the blockchain, and dashboards for both the public and auditors. Meanwhile, the Cardano Foundation brought in its Reeve platform, enhancing Reeve Publisher and Reeve Data Reader to support this pilot.

In addition to building their separate parts, both teams collaborated on shaping the project’s data model and figuring out how to manage data on-chain and off-chain. They also ran integration tests together, making sure all components worked as planned. The joint effort aimed to show blockchain-backed reporting actually works, while still keeping financial records clear and easy to audit.

What Cardano and Reef Data Say About the Pilot

Cleopatra Martins, Finance Product Lead at the Cardano Foundation, said this partnership gets right to the core of what Reeve was meant for.

“Reeve was built on the conviction that financial flows should be verifiable by everyone and fully transparent, particularly for those they affect.”

Martins also pointed out that Reef Data’s cooperative approach fits perfectly with this goal, since its member-driven model means everyone deserves the power to check financial information for themselves. She said the project’s goal was to set an example for how transparency and accountability can be built into financial reporting from day one.

“This pilot is about proving that transparency and accountability can be designed into the data economy from the start.”

Elizabeta Gorgievska, Head of Marketing at Reef Data GmbH, said the pilot showed how blockchain can serve co-ops by letting them record sales, payouts, and rewards in a way everyone can check, not just trust internal reports. Blockchain puts transactions right on-chain so members and auditors can validate them directly.

“The project, supported by the Cardano Foundation, demonstrates how sales, reward distributions, and member payouts can be recorded on-chain.”

Gorgievska said the pilot proved the two systems work together in practice.

“Jointly we were able to test the integration of Reef Data’s systems with Reeve, validate the publishing and retrieval of structured data on-chain, and assess the combined solution’s technical feasibility, performance, and usability for the benefit of our future cooperative members and customers.”

The announcement noted the pilot showed Reef Data’s application infrastructure and the Cardano Foundation’s Reeve platform can integrate smoothly. The teams evaluated everything from technical reliability to user experience while making sure structured data could be published and retrieved on-chain, a concrete step forward for blockchain financial reporting in cooperatives.
